Legacy of Lies Dark Secrets Elizabeth Chandler Books
I read this book in high school and for the longest time would refer to this story, but people always thought I was crazy when I would talk about it. For the longest time I assumed I had just dreamed about the events that happened in this story or seen a movie with this plot, however, I found it! I am not as crazy as I thought, well at least not about this!Read it.

Legacy of Lies Dark Secrets Elizabeth Chandler Books Reviews
I have read this story at least 300 times since the paper-back copy came out ten years ago, so when I saw it was here on kindle I pounced. This has always been one of my favorites. Megan suddenly gets a invite from her "sort-of" Grandmother to stay for fall break, whom she has never spoken to or meet before in her life as she finds her and her brother not "true-family members" for being adopted. Once she arrives she discovers all sorts of family secrets her Mom never mentioned, because she never knew - and know has because there is a deathly secret in the family Megan in dreaming about and uncovering while she is there. Which is making her "sort-of" cousin Matt furious with her & they have all sorts of sexual tension when they argue.
A must read if your a fan of the writer!!!!
After reading Legacy of Lies, the 1st book of the Dark Secrets series, I swore to myself that I would read all of the other books in the series. Why? Because this one was so, so good! It's all about Megan, an Arizona girl living with her mom, dad, and two brothers. Megan is adopted, and is convinced that since her father is African American that her old Grandmother wants absolutly NOTHING to do with her. But when she requests Megan come visit her for 2 weeks, Megan is quite shocked. As you read on, Megan must question her identity, try and figure out why items in the house are being moved from place to place, consider the connection between her and her great aunt Avril and her mysterious death, plus, try not to fall head over heels in love with her cousin, Matt. This book is a great mystery, with thrills, chills, and a little romance sprinkled through the chapters. This is a perfect book, and I myself look foward to reading the next books in the series!
Megan's grandmother disowned her daughter (Megan's mother) when she married a man of another race. The sixteen-year-old has never met her maternal grandmother until she was recently summoned by the matriarch to come to her Scarborough House in Maryland. When Megan arrives, she finds her relative is disagreeable and inhospitable. Her cousin by adoption, Matt wants Megan to leave. However, what upsets Megan the most is that she has seen this home in her dreams for years.
Over time, strange events occur such as objects moving themselves and Megan seeing a teenage ghost. Megan feels that sins of the past are being held accountable in the present. She learns the ghost is Avril, who died sixty years ago and looks identical to Megan. As more weirdness happens, Megan accepts reincarnation as she readies herself for an attack by an unknown enemy.
Elizabeth Chandler has written an engrossing young adult romantic suspense in which the paranormal elements are tightly intertwined into the plot. This adds to the excitement and feel of pending doom. Teens will admire Megan for her feistiness and independence. Ms. Chandler provides teens with an entertaining, exhilarating tale that will send the audience seeking more works from the author.

Sixteen-year-old Megan resents her grandmother, who disowned Megan's mother for marrying a man of another race, and who does not think of Megan and her brothers as her grandchildren because they were adopted. But at her grandmother's request, she has come to spend two weeks at her mother's childhood home, a large house in the Maryland countryside. When she arrives, she immediatley recognizes the house from her dreams - even though she had never been there before, or even seen a picture of it. Now that she is at the house, the dreams intesify, even to the point of her sleepwalking. Then Megan discovers the story of her great-aunt Avril, who died at age sixteen. The death was suspicious, and some people in the town still suspect she was murdered. Soon, Megan begans to dream that she is Avril, and then she begins to wonder if she is in fact Avril reincarnated. With the help of her cousin by adoption, Matt, who may be a reincarnation of Avril's lost love, Megan sets out to find the truth - before she dies in this life as well. I reccomend this book to teens who enjoy mysteries and thrillers. I can't wait to read the next Dark Secrets book.
Megan has never met her grandmother on her mother's side of the family - she has always been a distant figure. Now Megan is travelling to Scarborough House to spend some time with her. The house is old and creepy, as is her grandmother. Her cousin Matt takes an instant dislike to her and tries to get her to leave. The house has started the dreams again too - dreams of the house that she has never visited until now. Hidden in the past is a secret that will tear Megan apart - or give her a peace she never knew she craved.
This is one of the best books that I read in 2001. It is an incredible mix of fantasy, mystery, and thriller and will appeal to a wide range of tastes because of that mix. All of the characters are well written and draw you into their world. Some of the things that happened in this novel were down right creepy, and the twist at the end was rather unexpected. If you like this book then you have got to read the next one in this series.
If you like this book you should try reading Margaret Peterson Haddix and Nancy Werlin as they write somewhat similar books.
Great read!!
This is such a MUST READ book, especially for someone my age. I'm 13 and can really relate to everything that Megan goes through (for example liking a guy who seems to hate you, but in the end you get together!). It really gets your imagination working. The plot is soooooo creative. I just couldn't put it down!! On the first page, I was already imagining myself as Megan and worndering what was going to happen next.
So, in conclusion, this is one of the best books I have ever read. If you like suspence and mystery novels, you would be crazy not to read this book!!
